Family History

Thomas was born in 1888 at Newark and was the son of the late Henry White a brewers labourer and Ellen White née Moore of 16 Sheppards Row, Newark. His father Henry was born in 1864 at Newark, he died in 1903 at Newark aged 39 yrs, his mother Ellen Moore was born in 1865 also in Newark, they were married in 1887 at Newark and went on to have 8 children, sadly 5 were to die in infancy or early childhood, their surviving children were, Thomas b1888, Harry b1893 and John b1896. In the 1911 census the family are living at 1 Collingham Row, Newark and are shown as Ellen 46 yrs a widow, she is living with her children, Thomas 23 yrs a chemical manufacturers labourer, Harry 18 yrs a tailors presser and John 18 yrs a fitters apprentice.

Military History

Private Thomas White enlisted at Newark and served with the 1/5th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment. He was killed in action on 1st July 1917, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Arras Memorial, Pas de Calais, France.
