Fred Hallam was born in 1883 at Willoughby and was the son of Eliza Hallam of Back Yard, East Leake, his siblings were, Bestsy Hallam b1885 Sarah Emily b1896 Ada Annie b1899 and Emma b1902 all were born in East Leake. His mother Eliza Hallam was born in 1861 at Willoughby she was married in 1909 to Henry Hogg b1858 at Gotham, (an agricultural labourer) their marriage was recorded in the Leicester registration district. In the 1911 census are living at Back Yard, East Leake and are shown as Henry Hogg 53 yrs no occupation listed , he is living with his wife Eliza Hogg 50 yrs and her children, Fred Hallam 28 yrs a platelayer , Sarah Emily Hallam 15 yrs a basket maker, Ada Annie Hallam 12 yrs a scholar and Emma 9 yrs of age. Henry Hogg states he has been married for 2 yrs and has no children.
Pte Fred Hogg enlisted in Loughborough using his step fathers name, he gave his place of birth as Willoughby Notts and his residence as East Leake, Notts. He served with the 1st battalion Leicestershire Regiment and landed with them at St Nazaire, France on 10th September 1915. He was killed in action a year later on 15th September 1916. He is buried in the Guards Lesboeufs Cemetery, Somme, France grave ref XII A 3
