Family History

Albert Andrew was born in 1897 at Newark and was the son of the late Albert Edward a licensed victualler and Kate Andrew née Thompson of Newark. His father Albert Edward was born in Newark in 1870 and his mother Kate Thompson was born in 1872 also in Newark. They were married in 1892 at Newark and had the following children, Arthur b1893, Albert b1897, Ernest b1900, all of whom were bron in Newark. In the 1901 census the family are living at G & H Tavern 126 Lincoln Road, Newark and are shown as Albert E Andrew 31 yrs an Inn keeper, he is living with is wife Kate 29 yrs and their children, Arthur 8 yrs, Albert 4 yrs and Ernest 8 months, Hs father Albert Edward died in 1905 at Newark aged 35 yrs his mother Kate went on to remarry George Clayton in 1908. In the 1911 census the family are living at 19 Lincoln Street, Newark and are shown as George Clayton 34 yrs a brewers labourer, he is living with his wife Kate Clayton and his stepsons Albert Andrew 14 yrs a telegraph messenger and Ernest Andrew 10 yrs

Military History

Sergeant Albert Andrew enlisted at Newark and served with 'B' Company, 17th battalion Sherwood Foresters. He died of wounds on 24th October 1917 aged 21 yrs, he is buried in Godewaersvelde British Cemetery, France.
