Percy Ward was born in 1878 at Kneesall and was the son of William Twinbery Ward a gardener and Mary Arm Ward née Lister of Kneesall Newark. His father William Twinbery was born in 1842 at Ollerton, his mother Mary Ann Lister was born in 1841 at Torksey, they were married in 1870, their marriage was recorded in the Gainsborough Registration district, they went on to have 7 children sadly 1 died in infancy or early childhood, their children were, Charles b1872, Lister b1876, Percy b1878, Herbert b1880 and Mary Ann b1884, Percy was the husband of Annie Ward of Park Terrace Southwell, they had the following children, Mary Ann born 20th August 1909 and William Alexander born 18th January 1912. In the 1911 census his parents are living at Westgate, Southwell and are shown as William Ward 68 yrs a gardener, he is living with his wife Mary Ann 69 yrs and their daughter Mary Ann 27 yrs assisting at home.

Military History

Private Percy Ward enlisted at Arnold whilst residing at Southwell , he served with the Army Service Corps, Mechanical Transport Depot (Grove Park). He died on 23rd December 1916 of bronchial pneumonia at the VAD hospital at Bromley and is buried at Greenwich Cemetery, London.
