George Parlby (junior) was born in 1883 at Southwell and was the son of George Parlby (senior) and Mary Parlby née Brown. His father George was born in 1835 and died in 1887 at Newark, his mother Mary Brown was born in 1845 at Tuxford, they were married in 1872 at East Retford, they went on to have the following children, Mary Ann b1873, Fanny b1879 and George b1883. George (junior ) married his wife Lois Ann Williamson (born 1889 Asfordby) in 1908 their marriage was recorded in the Melton Mowbray registration district they went on to have the following children, William Leslie born 4th April 1909, John Frederick born 26th October 1911, Sidney Arthur born 19th March 1913, and Frances Mary 7th March 1915, they lived at New St, Asfordby, Melton Mowbray. In the 1911 census George (junior) is living at 11 North Street, Asfordby, Melton Mowbray and is shown as George 27 yrs an iron dresser, he is living with his wife Lois 22 yrs and their son Leslie 1 year old. In the same 1911 census his mother is living at Upton village and is shown as Mary Parlby 67 yrs a widow. His widow went on to remarry and became Lois Ann Jones and lived at New Street, Asfordby.
Private George Parlby originally enlisted at Retford on 13th January 1902 , he was 20 yrs of age and a gardener, he signed on for 1 years service and served with the service number 40868 in the Imperial Yeomanry. He left England on 26th May 1902 and landed at Durban, South Africa on 25th June 1902, he returned to England on 3rd January 1903 and was discharged time served on 12th January 1903. On the outbreak of war he enlisted at Melton Mowbray whilst residing as Asfordby, he served with the Leicestershire Yeomanry and died at Leicester Hospital on 14th December 1915 of acute appendicitis. He is buried at Asfordby (All Saints) Churchyard, Leicestershire.
