Oliver Sharpe was born in 1868 in Leicester and was the son of Oliver Sharpe a shoe maker and Phoebe Sharpe née Jones . He married his wife Elizabeth Harriett Ayres in Leicester in 1890, they went on to have 9 children, Mabel b1891 Leicester, Gertrude b1895 Leicester, Ethel b1897 Leicester, Minnie b1899 Leicester, Oliver b1903 Leicester, Walter b1906 Thorpe, Horace b1908 Southwell, Ernest b1910 Southwell and Harold b1911 Southwell In the 1911 census he and his family were living at West Gate, Southwell he is shown as being 43 yrs and a boot maker he is living with his wife Elizabeth Harriet 40 yrs and their 8 children. His wife Elizabeth Harriett died at the age of 41 yrs at Southwell in 1912. He married his second wife Jane Cooper in 1914, their marriage was recorded in the Newark Registration District. Following his death his second wife Jane was living at The Bungalow, Essex Rd., Gipsy Lane, Leicester.

Military History

Private Oliver Sharpe enlisted at Leicester, he served with the Depot Army Ordnance Corps and landed in France on 2nd September 1915. He died at Leeds War Hospital on 15th January 1918 of TB and was buried in Leeds (Harehills) Cemetery, Yorkshire.
