He was the son of Walter and Emma Cawley and the brother of Harry and Lilian Cawley. In 1911 they lived at 102 Glapton Road Meadows Nottingham. Walter died on 17 April 1933 aged 65 years and Emma on 19 February 1939 aged 71 years.

Killed in action in the attack on Gommecourt, France. Commemorated on the Theipval Memorial
