Family History

Thomas Mitchell was born in 1882 at Normanton on the Wolds and was the son of the the late Robert a farm labourer and the late Sarah Ann Mitchell née Dabell of Normanton on the Wolds. His father Robert was born in 1839 at Normanton, he died in 1917 aged 78 yrs his mother Sarah Ann Dabell was born in 1842 at Bilborough she died in 1915 she was 73 yrs old, they were married in 1869 their marriage was recorded in the Nottingham registration district, they had the following children, Elizabeth b1870, Mary b1876, John Robert b1879, Thomas b1882 and Mable Annie b1891, all were born in Normanton. In the 1911 census the family were living at Platt Lane Normanton on the Wolds and were shown as Robert 72 yrs a farm labourer, he is living with his wife Sarah Ann 69 yrs and their children, Thomas 28 yrs a farm labourer and Mabel Annie 20 yrs no occupation listed.

Military History

Private Thomas Mitchell enlisted at West Bridgford, he initially served with the service number 40465 in the Sherwood Foresters Regiment, later transferring to the 419th Agricultural Company, Labour Corps (125340) when he died on 1st November 1918 at the Leeswood Hall Australian Hospital at Liverpool. His body was returned to his family who buried him at Buried in Plumtree Churchyard
