Family History

Eric Brandon Fotherby was born in 1898 he was the son of John James a coal miner hewer and Esther Fotherby née Raynor-Oates of 40 Breach Eastwood Nottinghamshire. John James was born in 1875 at Greasley, Esther Annie Raynor-Oates was born in 1878 at Eastwood, they were married on 31st October 1897 at St Mary's Church, Eastwood, they went on to have 7 children. In 1911 the family lived at 40 Breach, Eastwood, John James 36 yrs is a coal miner living with his wife Esther Annie 33 yrs and their children including Eric 13 yrs a coal miner ganger.

Military History

Gunner Eric Brandon Fotherby enlisted in Ilkeston on 23rd February 1915 aged 17 and arrived in France five months later. He served with 'C' Bty 91st Bde Royal Field Artillery at Loos and was killed in action on 19th April 1915 near Ypres. He is buried at La Brique Military Cemetery No 2, Belgium
