John Price was born in 1899 at Underwood and was the son of William a coal miner contractor and Julia Price née Ball of 89 Main Street, Underwood. His father William was born in 1874 at Bagthorpe , his mother Julia Ball was born in 1876 at Underwood, they were married in 1897 their marriage was recorded in the Nottingham Registration district, they went on to have 7 children, sadly one died in infancy or early childhood, their surviving children were, Glynn b1896, John b1899, Julia b1902, Lois b1903, Samuel b1906 and William b1909 all were born in Underwood. In the 1911 census they lived on Main Street Underwood and were shown as William 37 yrs a coal miner contractor he is living with his wife Julia 35 yrs and their children, Glynn 15 yrs a domestic gardener, John 12 yrs a scholar, Julia 9 yrs Lois 8 yrs, Samuel 5 yrs, and William 2yrs of age.
Private John Price, enlisted at Hucknall and served with the 5th Battalion Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire Regiment, he died of wounds on 25th June 1918. He is buried in Pernes British Cemetery.
