Family History

Arthur Whitworth was born in 1898 at Kneesall and was the son of the late George a labourer and Kate Whitworth of Woodborough Vicarage Nottingham. His father George was born in 1864 at Kneesall he died prior to 1911 and his mother Kate Wilkinson was born in 1868 at Newark, they were married in 1891 at Southwell and went on to have the following children, Daisy born 1894 Kneesall, Florence born 1896 Knesall and Arthur b1898 Kneesall. In the 1911 census the family are living at the Union Workhouse at Southwell, Kate is shown as being 47 yrs a widow and charwoman she has with her two children Arthur 11 yrs and James 8 yrs

Military History

Private Arthur Whitworth enlisted at Leicester and served with the 7th battalion Leicestershire Regiment, he was killed in action on 8th November 1917, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium.
