Family History

Walter Francis Foster was born on 10th July 1877 at Queensbury, he was baptised on 5th August 1877 at Holy Trinity Church, Queensbury, Yorkshire, he was the son of the late William Foster a farmer ( farming 175 acres and employing 12 men) and his second wife the late Mary Ellen Hornby, of Queensbury, Yorkshire. William Foster was born in 1821 at Clayton Yorkshire, he died in 1884 aged 63 yrs, he originally married Emma Eliza Anderton (born 1827 Bradford, she died 1865 aged 38 yrs) they were married in 1848 at Bradford, they had 7 children. Following his first wifes death his father went on to remarry to Mary Ellen Hornby, born 1836 Folkton, Yorkshire, she died in 1902, they were married on 28th January 1867 in Yorkshire, they has 4 children including Walter Francis Foster. In 1891 he was away at school in Harrogate and in 1901 lived with his mother and sisters Mary and Alice at Melbourne Hall, Derbyshire along with six servants. In 1911 he lived at Arnor Hill Ruddington with a cook and parlour maid. Walter was educated at Repton School.

Military History

Driver Walter Francis Foster enlisted on 29th September 1916 at West Bridgford, Nottingham whilst. he was residing at Bradford, he served with the Army Service Corps and landed in France on 9th November he was accidentally killed on 17th November 1916 aged 39 yrs and is buried at Blangy-Sur- Bresle Communal Cemetery, France.
