William Copestake was born in 1899 at Sutton in Ashfield, the son of Ernest a coal miner hewer and Eliza Ann Copestake née Thorpe and the brother of John, Lily, Beatrice and Joseph Copestake. In 1911 they lived at 50 Union Street Sutton in Ashfield Nottinghamshire. Ernest was born in 1879, Eliza Ann Thorpe was born in 1878 both were born in Sutton in Ashfield, married on 30th May 1898 at Sutton in Ashfield they had 5 children.

Military History

Private William Copestake, enlisted at Mansfield he served with the 2nd Battalion King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry and was killed in action on 2nd June 1918. He is buried at Berles New Military Cemetery.
