His father is listed as a hosier and glover.Admitted to Nottingham High School October 1907 age 14, left 1908On 1911 Census he is living with his parents and brother, Harold George, at Tudor House, 64 Castle Boulevard, Nottingham. His father is listed as a gent’s hosier and Leslie as a hosier’s assistant
Enlisted 1914 as 340 Gunner 1st/1st (Notts) Battery Royal Horse Artillery. Embarked from Avonmouth for Alexandria on 9th April 1915 aboard SS Nitonian. Entered theatre 25th April 1915 Promoted to Corporal. Renumbered 612026 in 1917. Discharged for commission. Gazetted Temporary Second Lieutenant 30th June 1917 (London Gazette 19th September 1917). Appointed Second Lieutenant with 18th Brigade RHA 9th July 1917. Appointed Temporary Lieutenant 28th December 1918 (London Gazette 16th April 1919). Serving with 19th Brigade when he died at sea.

Estate £271MIC Says served as a Second Lieutenant with 8th Brigade but this was on the Western Front. More likely to be 18th Brigade which together with 19th Brigade formed part of the ANZAC Mounted Division artillery, and which would allow for him serving with 19th Brigade, which included his former Battery.
