Pte Charles Gant Retford Times 24 Nov 1916 Another Clarborough hero has paid the extreme sacrifice for King and country. On Wednesday morning last week, the parents of Pte Charles Gant received a telegram intimating that their son had died from wounds received in action in France on the previous Sunday, Nov 12th. He was in the King’s own Yorkshire Light Infantry and was 26 years of age. On Wednesday evening, the sexton. Mr Geo. Stevenson, tolled the passing bell out of respect to the deceased. On Monday of this week the information previously received by telegram was confirmed by the receipt of a letter from the official Headquarters in York. The deceased was wounded in action a few weeks ago but made a rapid recovery and again went into the trenches. He was a steady young fellow and well liked by his platoon.
