Family History

Ernest Buxton was born in 1880 the son of Arthur and Mary Buxton, of 21, High Street, Mossborough. Ernest married Mary Beresford (born 26th September 1887 Holbrook, Derbyshire ) in 1901 their marriage was recorded in the Chesterfield registration district they had the following children, Beatrice Lilian, Arthur John, Annie Mary, Gladys, Sidney, Minnie and Agnes Buxton. They lived at 37 Sherwood Road Sutton in Ashfield Nottinghamshire. Commencing 17th April 1916 his widow was awarded a pension of 28 shillings and 6 pence a week.

Military History

Private Ernest Buxton enlisted at Sutton in Ashfield. He went to Gallipoli on 28th August 1915 and died of wounds, 4th October 1915, in Egypt, of wounds received in Gallipoli. Buried: Alexandria (Chatby) Military and War Memorial Cemetery, Egypt. Row F. Grave 78.
