Family History

Walter Dexter was born in 1889 at Ruddington, he was the son of Samuel a carter and his first wife the late Jane Hallam of Ruddington. Samuel was born in 1865 at Ruddington, Jane Hallam was born in 1866 at Ruddington, she died in 1892 aged 26 yrs, they were married in 1886 their marriage was recorded in the Basford registration district, they had 3 children, Edith born 1887, Walter born 1889 and Harold born 1891. He father remarried on 7th August 1893 at Mapperley, Derbyshire to Mary Elizabeth Simpson born 1874 at Mapperley, Derbyshire, they went on to have 6 daughters In 1891, he lived in Ruddington with his parents and siblings and in 1901 and 1911 with his grandfather William, also at Ruddington.

Military History

Private Walter Dexter enlisted at Leamington whilst he was residing at Birmingham, he served with the 1st Bn Prince Albert's Somerset Light Infantry, he died of wounds on 31st October 1918 and is buried at St Severs Cemetery Extension, Rouen.
