He was the son of James Hibbert and Maria Lavender and the brother of William Henry, George and Emily Lavender. They lived at 15 Conisborough Terrace Glapton Road Meadows Nottingham.
Private Joseph Lavender, enlisted in Nottingham and served with 2/5th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire) Regiment, was attached to 178th Light Trench Mortar Battery. He landed in France on 29th August 1915. He was killed in action on 21st March 1918. He is commemorated on the Arras Memorial.
Obituary published in the Nottingham Evening Post dated 21st March 1919:- “LAVENDER. – In loving memory of Pte. Joseph Lavender, 16776 S.
