Frederick William Birks was born in 1882 at Radford and was the son of Thomas an iron moulder and Elizabeth Birks née Williamson of 35 Wilford Crescent East, Nottingham. His father Thomas was born in 1856 at Lenton, his mother Elizabeth Williamson was born in 1857 at Radford, they were married in 1881 at Radford, they went on to have 5 children, sadly one died in infancy or early childhood, their surviving children were Frederick William b1882, Thomas b1885, John Bingley b1886, and Mabel Sarah b1888 all were born in Radford. In the 1911 census the family are living at 35 Wilford Crescent East, Nottingham and are shown as Thomas Birks 55 yrs an iron moulder, he is living with his wife Elizabeth 54 yrs and their children, Frederick William 29 yrs a dental assistant, John Bingley 25 yrs an iron moulder and Mabel Sarah 22 yrs
