Joseph Hugh is shown on CWGC and UKSDG records as Hugh Binch. He was born in Calverton in 1898 and on the 1911 census is shown as being 13 yrs of age, a school boy living on South Terrace Calverton with his father James Binch born 1873 and mother Mary Hannah born 1876 and a sister Ruth Ida born 1902. His parents were still living on South Terrace, Calverton, when the CWGC record was compiled.

Military History

He enlisted at Hucknall initially in the Sherwood Foresters but was transferred to the Durham Light Infantry and later to 84th Coy Labour Corps He died of wounds received in action on 20 August 1918 and was buried at the Esquelbecq Military Cemetery, France (grave ref. II.F.25). He was awarded the Military Medal
