Charles was born at Retford in 1880 he was the son of Charles a general labourer and Jane Brammer (nee Briggs) of Woolpack St., Retford. He was the husband of Edith Eardley whom he married in Retford in 1904 and they lived at 16, St. John St., Retford, Nottinghamshire. They had 2 sons Charles Ernest born 1905 and Richard born 1908 In the 1911 census Charles and his family are living at Lidgett Lane,Retford he is 29 years of age and a hedge cutter by trade. He and his wife have been married for 7 years.

Military History

He enlisted in Retford and was killed in action on 17th October 1917 His body was never recovered and identified and has no known grave, his name is commemorated on the Tyne Cot, Memorial
