Wilfred Turton was born in 1894 at Hucknall and the son of Thomas a railway signalman and Annie Turton née Barratt of Wighay Nook, Annesley Road, Hucknall. His father Thomas was born in 1861 at Hucknall, his mother Annie Barratt was born in 1863 also at Hucknal, they were married in 1884 their marriage was recorded in the Basford Registration district, they went on to have 8 children two of whom died in infancy or early childhood, their surviving children were Samuel b1885, Frank b1887, Roland b1890 Wilfred b1894, Reginald b1896 and Thomas Leonard Turton b1898 all were born in Hucknall In the 1911 census the family lived at Wighay Nook Annesley Road Hucknall Torkard Nottinghamshire and were shown as Thomas 50 yrs a railway signalman, he is living with his wife Annie 48 yrs and their children, Samuel 26 yrs a colliery banksman, Frank 24 yrs a colliery banksman, Roland 21 yrs a collier, Wilfred 17 yrs a gang lad pony driver, Reginald 15 yrs a gang lad pony driver and Thomas Leonard 13 yrs a scholar.
Private Wilfred Turton, served with the 7th battalion The Buffs (East Kent Regiment) he was killed in an accident involving an unexploded shell on 17th December 1918. The 25 year-old is buried in Honnechy British Cemetery.
