Arthur Sansom was born in 1890 at Nottingham and was the son of James a telegraphist and Eleacher Sansom née Potter of 49 St Matthias Road, Nottingham. His father James was born in 1866 and his mother Eleacher Potter was born in 1868 both were born in Nottingham, they were married in 1887 at Nottingham and went on to have 12 children, sadly 1 died in infancy or early childhood, their surviving children were, Edith b1889, Arthur b1890, Hilda b1893,Kate b1895, Elsie b1897, Robert b1899, James b1901, Frederick b1903, Phyllis b1905, George b1907 and CHarles b1909, all were born in Nottingham. In the 1911 census the family are living at 21 St Matthias Road, Nottingham and are shown as James 45 yrs a telegraphist, he is living with his wife Eleacher 43 yrs and their children, Edith 22 yrs a pattern girl, Arthur 20 yrs an accounts clerk, Hilda 18 yrs a machinist, Kate 16 yrs a lace pattern girl, Elsie 14 yrs an errand girl, Robert 12 yrs a scholar, James 10 yrs a scholar, Frederick 8 yrs a scholar, Phyllis 6 yrs a scholar, George 4 yrs and Charles 2 yrs.
Sergeant Arthur Sansom, served with the 9th Battalion King's Royal Rifle Corps. He landed in France on 31st May 1915 and was killed in action on 30th July 1915. He is commemorated on the Menin Gate.Commemorated on Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial.

In memoriam published 30th July 1919 in the Nottingham Evening Post :- “SANSOM. – In loving memory of Sergt. A. Sansom, 9th Bn. K.R.R., killed in action July 30th, 1915.
