William Husbands was born in 1888 in Carrington and was the son of John a tramways cashier and Mary Jane Husbands née Jordan of 6, Waldeck Rd, Carrington, Nottingham.His father was born in 1856 in Basford and his mother Mary Jane Jordan was born in 1864 also in Basford, they went on to marry in 1883 in Nottingham and had 6 children 2 sadly died in infancy or early childhood, their surviving children were all born in Carrington and were Cyril b1884, William b1888, Harold b1897 and Marjorie b1899. In the 1911 census the family are living at 6 Waldeck Road, Carrington and are shown as John 55 yrs a tramway cashier, he is living with is wife Mary Jane 47 yrs and their children Cyril 27 yrs a wirer for tramway company, William 23 yrs a clerk, Harold 14 yrs a scholar and Marjorie 12 yrs a scholar.
Captain William Husbands, North Rhodesia Police (twice mentioned in despatches), died 24th December 1918. He is buried in Ndola (Kansenshi) Cemetery, Zimbabwe.(grave ref 2.A.15).
In memoriam published 24th December 1919 in the Nottingham Evening Post :- “HUSBANDS. – In loving memory of our dear son, Capt. W. Husbands (Billie), died Kasama, N. Rhodesia, December 24th, 1918.
