Family History

Joseph Hogg was born in 1887 the son of Lewis a butcher and Georgina Hogg (née Rolling). Lewis was born in 1861 at Langley Mill, Georgina Rolling in 1862 at Moorgreen. Married in 1885, they had five children two surviving infancy – Joseph and George Richard who was born in 1890 also at Eastwood. Joseph married Annie Edith Widdowson in 1907 and they went on to have 2 children, Mary b.1908 and Winifred May b.1911. In 1911, Joseph’s parents lived at Newthorpe Common. In 1911, Joseph was living at 326 St Ann's Well Road, Nottingham with his wife Edith and daughters Mary (3) and Winifred (11 months). Also living with them was Albert Strutt a widow and a servant.

Military History

Private Joseph Hogg enlisted at Nottingham , he served with the Army Service Corps, and landed in France on 30th August 1915. He returned to England and died on 24th November 1918 suffering from disease, he is buried at Eastwood Cemetery, Grave Reference: 1198
