Family History

Matthew Haddon was born in 1896 at Nottingham, he was the only son of Ernest a lace maker Ada Florence Haddon née Allen of 33 Belton Street Hyson Green Nottingham. Ernest was born in 1869 at Lenton, Ada Florence Allen was born in 1873 at Nottingham, they were married on 1st June 1895 at Nottingham. A newspaper article dated 23rd December 1901 published in the Nottingham Evening Post gives details of a separation order applied for by Ada Florence in regard to her husband Ernest for a separation order due to his persistent cruelty towards her. The application was granted and Ada was granted custody of their child and 10 shillings a week for maintenance. In 1911 Matthew is living at 64 Mitchell Street, Radford, he is 15 yrs of age and is a warehouse assistant in a chemical manufactures, he is living with his nother Ada Florence 38 yrs a lace mender.

Military History

Lance Corporal Matthew Haddon, enlisted in Nottingham and served with the 11th Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers. He landed in France on 25th August 1915 and was killed in action on 7th July 1916. He has no known grave and his name is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial.
