Harry was born in 1898 the son of Thomas a publican and later farm bailiff and Mary Ann Coulson (née Brittain). They lived at Park Side Farm, Wollaton Nottingham. Thomas was born in 1859 at Repham, Lincolnshire, Mary Ann Brittain in 1867 at Tinwell, Rutland. Married in 1187, they had eight children, seven surviving infancy - Miriam b.1887 Little Harrowden, Northamptonshire, Thomas b.1891 Little Harrowden, Frederick b.1892 Titchmarsh, Northamptonshire, Bessie b.1897 Tichmarsh, Harry b.1898 Thurlby, Lincs, Jack b.1904 Thurlby , Ena Violet b.1907 Thurlby. In 1911, they lived at 54, Regent Street, Beeston. Thomas was a farm a wagoner and Bessie a cardboard box maker.
Harry Coulson enlisted in Nottingham on 18th May 1914. He was embodied on 5th August 1914 and landed in France on 25th February 1915. He was killed in action attacking the Hohenzollern Redoubt during the Battle of Loos.on 13th October 1915. Loos Memorial, Dud Corner
