Family History

Percy Hall was born in 1894 at Southwell and was the son of John a general labourer and Sarah Hall née Jepson of 8 Sunnisde, Westhorpe, Southwell His father was born in 1869 at Southwell and his mother Sarah Jepson was born in 1871 also in Southwell they were married in 1889 at Southwell and went on to have 11 children, their children recorded on the 1901/11 census were, John Wallace b1889, George Walter b1891, Susie b1892,Percy b1894, Violet Lilliam b1896, Doris May b1898, Sarah Eliza b1901, Baden b1903, Kate b1906, Alec Stuart b1907 and Adrian b1909, In the 1911 census his parents and siblings are living at Oxton Road, Southwell and are shown as John 42 yrs a general labourer, he is living with his wife Sarah 40 yrs and their children Doris May 13 yrs scholar, Sarah Eliza 10 yrs a scholar, Baden 8 yrs a scholar, Kate 5 yrs, Alex Stuart 4 yrs and Adrian 1 year of age. In the same 1911 census we find that Percy has moved out the family home, he is living with two of his brother at Westhorpe, Southwell and are shown as John Wallace 22 yrs a gardener and his brothers George Walter 20 yrs a hotel porter and Percy 17 yrs a nurseryman's labourer

Military History

Private Percy Hall enlisted at Sheffield and initially served with service number 6678 in the later transferring to the 1st battalion Munster Fusiliers. Taking part in the Gallipoli campaign he was killed in action on 21st August 1915, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Helles Memorial, Gallipoli. Panel 186 to 192
