Charles Willows was born in 1897 at Foston, Lincolnshire and was the son of Mary Widdowson (formerly Willows) of 11 Depot Yard, Newark. His brother Walter Willows was born in 1895 also at Foston. His mother Mary married in 1899 at Newark to Edward Widdowson a boatman working for the Trent Navigation company, they went on to have 3 children, Maggie b1901 Newark, Leonard b1903, Newark and Kate b1905 Newark. In the 1911 census the family are living at Fiskerton/Rolleston and are shown as Ed Widdowson 61 yrs a boatman, he is living with his wife Mary Widdowson and children, Walter Willows 16 yrs a farm labourer, Charles Willows 14 yrs a day boy on a farm, Maggie Widdowson 10 yrs a scholar, Leonard Widdowson 8 yrs and Kate Widdowson 6 yrs of age.
Private Charles Willow enlisted at Lincoln and served with the 2/4th battalion King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry. He was killed in action on 3rd October 1917 and is buried at Favreuil British Cemetery, Pas de Calais, France (grave ref 2.A.13)
