William James Warner was born in 1895 he was baptised on 3rd November 1895 at St John's Church, Mansfield he was the son of John a builder and the late Mary Warner née Holgate, of Deansgate, Pleasley. John was born in 1858 at Shorncliffe, Kent, Mary Holbeck was born in 1865 at Nottingham she died in 1898 at Mansfield aged 33 yrs, they were married on 18th June 1885 at Pleasley, they had 3 children, their other children were John Holbrook born 1888 Skegby and Winifred Mary born 1891 Pleasley Hill.In 1911 the family were living at Deansgate, Pleasley, John 53 yrs a widow is a building contactor he is living with his 3 children, John Holbrook 23 yrs assisting in fathers business, Winifred Mary 20 yrs a student and William James 15 yrs a scholar. William left his father John a builder and contractor £164 6s in his will.

Military History

Second Lieutenant William James Warner served with the Prince of Wales Own West Yorkshire Regiment, he was killed in action on 3rd May 1917 and having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Arras Memorial.
