Archibald Lambert Walsh was born in 1882 at Silsden, Yorkshire , he married his wife Sarah Ann Handley in 1904, their marriage was recorded in the East Retford Registration District, they lived at 16, Cross St., Newark and went on to have a daughter Winifred Ivy b1905 at Newark. In the 1911 censes he and his family are living at 14 Long Row, Newark and are shown as Archibald Walsh 29 yrs a labourer, he is living with his wife Sarah Ann 28 yrs (b1883 Tuxford) they are living with their daughter Winifred Ivy 6 yrs

Military History

Private Archibald Walsh enlisted at Newark and served with the 1st battalion Coldstream Guards, He had served in the South African Campaign and was mobilised at the outbreak of the war. He landed in France on 7th October 1914 and was killed in action on 29th October 1914, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium.
