Archibald Lambert Walsh was born in 1882 at Silsden, Yorkshire, he was the son of Susan Walsh born 1860 at Dudley, in the 1911 census his widowed mother Susan is living at 14 Farndon Road, Newark, she is 51 yrs, she is living with her children, Duke Wodhouse Walsh 21 yrs an iron driller and Lucy Woodhouse 18 yrs a dress maker. Archibald married Sarah Ann Handley (born 2nd April 1883 at Tuxford,) in 1904, their marriage was recorded in the East Retford Registration District, they lived at 16, Cross St., Newark and went on to have two daughters, Winifred Ivy 31st August 1905 at Newark and Laura born 19th May 1911. In the 1911 censes he and his family are living at 14 Long Row, Newark and are shown as Archibald Walsh 29 yrs a labourer, he is living with his wife Sarah Ann 28 yrs (b1883 Tuxford) they are living with their daughter Winifred Ivy 6 yrs.
Private Archibald Walsh enlisted at Newark and served with the 1st battalion Coldstream Guards, He had served in the South African Campaign and was mobilised at the outbreak of the war. He landed in France on 7th October 1914 and was killed in action on 29th October 1914, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium.
