Frank Raynor was born in 1894 at Southwell and was the son of Arthur a lace curtain manufacturer and Sarah Raynor née Henton of 49, Wollaton Rd., Beeston, Notts. His father Arthur was born in 1868 at Nottingham and his mother Sarah Henton was born in 1867 at Southwell, they were married in 1889 at Southwell and went on to have 7 children, sadly 3 died in infancy or early childhood, their surviving children were Henry b1892, Frank b1894, Fanny b1899 and John b1902, all were born in Southwell. In the 1911 census the family are living at King Street, Southwell and are shown as Arthur 43 yrs a lace curtain manufacturer, he is living with his wife Sarah 44 yrs and their children Henry 19 yrs a lace curtain threader, Frank 17 yrs a silk hand, Fanny 12 yrs a scholar and John 9 yrs a scholar.
Private Frank Raynor enlisted at Derby in 1911 and served with the 1st battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment. He served in India pre war and when war broke out he went to France in 1914. He was killed in action on 12th March 1915 during the counter attack by the Germans at Neuve Chapelle, France. Having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Le Touret Memorial, Pas de Calais, France.
