John Turner Pond

John Turner Pond was born in 1893 at Newark and was the son of William a general labourer and Martha Maria Pond née Turner of 6, Mount Square, Appleton Gate, Newark. His father William was born in 1857 at Whitwell, Derbyshire and his mother Martha Maria Turner was born in 1862 at Alford, Lincolnshire, they were married in 1882 at Newark and went on to have 11 children, sadly three were to die in infancy or early childhood, their surviving children were , Florence Maria b1883, Joseph Samuel b1885, Maud Annie b1887, Ethel b1888, Jenny b1889, John Turner b1893, Herbert Sydney b1902 and Alfred Edward Pond b1904 all were born in Newark. In the 1911 census the family lived at 11 Cawkwell's yard, Stodman Street, Newark. and are shown as William 52 yrs a general labourer he is living with his wife Martha Maria 49 yrs and their children, Jenny 22 yrs a willow peeler, John Turner 18 yrs a plasterers labourer, Herbert Sydney 9 yrs a scholar and Alfred Edward 7 yrs a scholar.
