Frank Peet was born in 1883 at Ruddington, he was the son of the late William a frame work knitter and the late Elizabeth Peet née Henson of Back Street, Ruddington. William was born in 1832 at Ruddington, he died in 1903 aged 73 yrs, Elizabeth Henson was born in 1848 at Ruddington she died in 1908 aged 60 yrs, they were married in 1875 their marriage was recorded in the Nottingham registration district, they had 8 children. In the 1901 census the family were living at Back Street, Ruddington. Frank married Alice Cross (born 8th November 1885) in 1908 their marriage was recorded in the Basford Registration district, they lived at Charles Street, Ruddington, they had a son Morris William born 30th March 1910. In the 1911 census Frank is living at Charles Street, Ruddington, he is 27 yrs of age and is a lace maker, he is living with his wife Alice 26 yrs and their son Morris 1 year of age. Commencing 24th March 1919 his widow was awarded a pension of 20 shillings and five pence a week.
Rifleman Frank Peet enlisted at West Bridgeford, whilst residing at Ruddington, he initially served with the service number 306624 in the Army Service Corps, later transferring to the 13th battalion King’s Royal Rifle Corps, he died on 16th September 1918 as a result of shell wounds at 3rd Canadian General Hospital, France, he is buried at Terlingthun British Cemetery, Wimille, France.
His brother Private 203952 Telford Peet, served with the 2/4th battalion King’s Own Yorkshire Light infantry, he died on 3rd May 1917 having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Arras Memorial. additional information Peter Gillings
