Leonard Loam was born in 1890 the son of Aylwin a clerk in a gas department and Mary Jane Loam (née Walker). Aylwin (1853-1917) was born at Nottingham, Mary Jane Walker in 1855 in Yorkshire. Married in 1878, they had four children, three surviving infancy - Edith Alice b.1881, Ernest Harold b.1885 and Leonard b.1890. In 1911 they lived at 110 Nottingham Road Sherwood Rise and later at 123 Gawthorne Street, Hyson Green (both Nottingham). Edith Alice was a bleach world clerk. Leonard’s effects of £116 were left to his sister Edith (Probate Nottingham 10/9/1918).
Leonard Loam enlisted on 2nd December 1915 in Nottingham. The following day he was posted into the reserves. He was mobilised on 23rd February 1916 and posted to the Royal Garrison Artillery. On the 31st November 1916 he embarked from Southampton disembarking the following day at Le Harve. He was wounded in action, a gun shot wound to his thigh, on 1st August 1918 and admitted to 6th Casualty clearing station in France and died from these wounds. He is buried in Sandpits British Cemetery, Fouquereuil, France, Grave Reference: III.H.4

He landed in France on 28th January 1916. He was commissioned and was with the 56th Company Royal Engineers when he was killed in action on 7th May 1918. He is buried in Sandpits British Cemetery, Fouquereuil, France, Grave Reference: I.F.7
