Elijah Willcocks and Ellen Burgin married in 1889 in Sheffield. They lived at 102 Darnall Road, Attercliffe where they had a daughter Lily in 1891. They had moved to Worksop before 1895 where the rest of their children were born. The children were, Elizabeth, William, Ronald, Amelia, Evelyn and Ivy. They all resided at 70 Potter street where Elijah worked as a brewery company drayman. Both the sons enlisted, Ronald it seems, under age.
Lce-Corpl Ronald Willcocks Worksop Guardian 11 October 1918 After nearly one years’ anxious suspense, Mr and mrs E Willcocks, 32 Potter Street, Worksop, have received information that their second son, Lce-Corpl Ronald Willcocks, South Wales Borderers, was killed in action on November 22nd. In December last, they were officially informed that he was wounded and missing on that date, and until now, no news of any kind had been received. A few days before he was reported missing, a letter from him stated that he was in the best of health. Lce-Corpl Willcocks would have been 20 years of age. He joined up at the age of 16 ½, in May 1915 and a year later he was sent to France, where he saw a lot of severe fighting. He was home just before he went to France, and this is the only time his parents ever saw him since his enlistment. A brave youth, typical of many of Britain’s best sons, he was anxious to do his part in his countries need. As a lad, he had been employed at Messrs Greenlees, boot and shoe dealers, and after at the River Plate Meat Co., Bridge Street. Just prior to enlistment he worked at Manton Colliery. The family are well known and highly respected, Mr Willcocks having been in the employ of Worksop and Retford Brewery Co. as a drayman, for 26 years.
