George Martin

George Martin was born in 1882 and was the son of William Henry a bricklayer and Mary Ellen Martin, née Stuffins of 50, Cross St., Newark. His father William Henry was born in 1851 at Bassingham, Lincolnshire and his mother Mary Ellen Peck Stuffins was born in 1861 at Hull, they were married at Newark in 1879 and went on to have 11 children all of whom were born in Newark , they were, George b1882, Fred b1884, Mary Ellen b1886, Herbert b1888, Catherine Peck b1891, Rebecca Spencer b1891, Winifred b1894, William Henry b1897, Percy b1898, Laura b1900 and Leslie b1905. In the 1911 census the family are living at 50 Cross Street, Newark and are shown as Wiliam Henry 60 yrs a bricklayer, he is living with his wife Mary Ellen 50 yrs and their children, Herbert 23 yrs a brick layer, Catherine Peck 20 yrs a sewing machinist for a tailor, Rebecca Spencer 20 yrs a sewing machinist for a tailor, William Henry 14 yrs a shop assistant in a china shop, Percy 13 yrs a scholar, Laura 11 yrs a scholar and Leslie 6 yrs of age. George married his wife Rebecca Elizabeth Goodman in 1905 in Newark, they lived at 54 Cross Street, Newark they went on to have a 3 children, George born 1909, Doris born 1913 and Ethel born 1915 all were born in Newark. In the 1911 census they are living at 54 Cross Street, Newark and are shown as George 29 yrs a bricklayer, he is living with his wife Rebecca Elizabeth 30 yrs and their son George 2 yrs. At the time of his death his widow and here 3 children are living at 11, Hill Vue Gardens, Massey St., Newark.
