Family History

George Lunn was born in 1887 at Newark and was the son of the late John Lunn a general labourer and Emma Lunn née Hall of 10 Wright Street, Newark. His father John was born in 1856 at Newark, he died on 8th July 1902 at Averham his mother Emma Hall was born in 1857 at Stubton, Lincolnshire, they were married in 1876 at Newark, they went on to have 9 children sadly 4 of whom died in infancy or early childhood, their children were William b1883, Herbert b1892, Arthur b1892 and Kate b1897. In the 1911 census his family are living at 10 Wrights Street, Newark and are shown as Emma Lunn 54 yrs a widow , she is living with her children, William 28 yrs a boiler makers labourer, Herbert 19 yrs a boiler makers labourer, Arthur 19 yrs a railway porter and Kate 14 yrs a tailoress. In the 1911 census George has left the family home and he is living at 42 East Park View, York Road, Leeds , he is living with Richard Pimborough 34 yrs a police constable and his wife Annie, he is shown as being 24 yrs and a police constable. He married his wife Lily Agnus Belcher on 9th November 1912 at All Hallows Church, Leeds and went on to have a son John Lunn born 1st June 1915 at Leeds, they lived at 64 Rosebank View, Westfield Road, Leeds.

Military History

Bombardier George Lunn enlisted on 22nd September 1912 at Leeds , he gave his age as 29 yrs and 4 months his address as 64 Rosebank View Westfield Road, Leeds and his occupation as that of a policeman. His next of kin was his wife Lily Agnes of the same address. He was posted to the 63rd Siege Battery, Royal Garrison Artillery and joined them at Dover on 27th September 1915. He landed in France on 24th February 1916 and died of wounds on 2nd November 1917 at the 61st casualty clearing station in France and is buried in Dozinghem Military Cemetery, Poperinghe, Belgium.

Attended Lovers Lane School before employment at Messrs. A. Hopwell. Ten years ago joined Leeds City Police. Went to France in February 1916. Died of wounds in chest, left arm and left leg.
