George Lambert was born in 1880 at Newark and was the son of Joseph a builders carter and Senna Lambert née Wallhead of 5 Collingham Row, Queens Road, Newark. His father Joseph was born in 1838 at Aubourn, Lincolnshire and his mother Senna Wallhead was born in 1845 at Haddington, Lincolnshire, they were married on 15th May 1866 at Aubourn and went on to have 9 children, Eliza b1868 Aubourn, Mary Jane b1870 Winthorpe, Lizzy b1872, Winthorpe, Rose b1874 Winthorpe, Lilly b1876 Winthorpe, Thomas b1878 Newark, George b1880 Newark, Edward b1883 Newark and Joseph b1885 Newark. In the 1911 census the family are living at 5 & 6 Collingham Row, Queen Street, Newark and are shown as Joseph 73 yrs an old age pensioner, he is living with his wife Senna 69 yrs and their children, Lizzie 40 yrs a tailoress, Thomas 34 yrs a plasterer, George 32 a maltsters labourer, Edward 30 yrs a carter and Joseph 28 yrs a fruiterer, also living at the address are 5 grandchildren.
Private George Lambert enlisted at Newark on 27th July 1916 and initially served with the service number 29465 in the 12th battalion Lincolnshire Regiment. He was serving with the service number 9372 with the Labour Corps when he died on 17th July 1917 at the 46th stationary hospital at Etaples of suspected cerebral spinal fever. He is buried at Etaples Military Cemetery, Pas de Calais, France.
