Family History

Harry Holberry was born in 1886 at Newark and was the son of Henry a maltsters labourer and Ann Holberry née Biggs of 10 Lindum Street, Newark. His father was Henry was born in 1855 at Newark and his mother Ann Biggs was born in 1858 at Cardiff, they were married in 1880 at Newark, his mother brought a child to the marriage, Thomas Biggs (born 1872 Claypole) they went on to thave the following children, John b1882, Joseph b1884, Harry b1886, Eliza A b1890, Harriett b1892, Ada b1894, , Leah b1897, William b1900, Christopher b1902 and Harry Holberry b1910, all were born in Newark. In the 1911 census the family are living at 10 Lindum Street, Newark and are shown as Henry 56 yrs a maltsters labourer, he is living with his wife Ann 53 yrs and their children, Thomas Biggs 39 yrs a brickyard labourer, John 29 yrs a brickyard labourer, Joseph 27 yrs a tailors maker, Harry 25 yrs a brewers labourer, Eliza A 21 yrs a tailors sewing machinist, Harriett 19 yrs a tailors sewing machinist, Ada 17 yrs a French polisher, William 11 yrs a scholar, Christopher 9 yrs a scholar and Harry 1 year of age.

Military History

Private Harry Holberry enlisted at Lincoln on 29th September 1914 , he served with the 1st battalion Lincolnshire Regiment and landed in France on 25th August 1914. He was killed in action on 12th November 1914 , having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium.
