Arthur Fox was born in 1898 at Newark and was the son of the late Henry Fox an iron moulder and Hannah Fox née Jepson of 27 King Street, Newark. His father Henry was born in 1862 at Chesterfield and died in 1904 aged 41 yrs in Newark, his mother Hannah Jepson was born in 1869 at Muskham they were married in 1895 at Newark and went on to have the following children, Charles James b1896, Edith b1897, Arthur b1898, Albert b1900, Ernest b1901, Dennis b1903 and Leonard b1906, all were born in Newark. In the 1911 census his mother and siblings are living at 27 King Street, Newark and are shown as Hannah Fox 42 yrs a widow, she is living with her children, Charles James 15 yrs a bottle washer, Edith 14 yrs a home help, Albert 11 yrs a scholar, Dennis 8 yrs a scholar and Leonard 6 yrs a scholar. In the same 1911 census we find Arthur Fox, he is living at 41 King Street, with his grandparents and are shown as, Henry Jepson 72 yrs a farm labourer, he is living with his wife Annie Elizabeth Jepson 71 yrs and their grandchildren Arthur Fox 13 yrs a scholar and Ernest Fox 10 yrs a scholar. His mother Hannah died in 1915 at Newark, she was 47 yrs of age. His sister Edith was he legatee
Private Arthur Fox enlisted in August 1916 at Newark and served with the 15th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment, he died of pneumonia on 2nd May 1918 at Rouen and is buried at St Sever Cemetery Extension, Rouen, France.
Article published 8th May 1918 in the Newark Advertiser :- Son of late Mr & Mrs Fox of Newark-on-Trent. Brother of Miss Fox, 27 King Street, Newark. Attended Christ Church school and the Methodist Sunday School. Worked for Mr. Widdison, King Street, before enlisting in the Sherwood Foresters in Aug. 1916. Died of pneumonia. His grandparents are over 80 years of age and have now lost two grandsons. Leaves a sister and four brothers, of whom, Albert is in the King’s (Liverpool) Regt. and Charles is in a Labour battalion.
