Thomas was born in 1896 at Newark and was the son of Frederick William a waggoner on a farm and Ellen Hannah Beeston née Spowage of 14 George Street, Newark. His father Frederick was born in 1877 at Shelton and his mother Ellen Hannah Spowage was born in 1874 at Elston, they were married in 1896, their marriage was recorded in the Southwell Registration district, they went on to have a further son William Frederick born 1899 at Mansfield. In the 1911 census the family are living at Danethorpe Hills, Brough, Newark and are shown as Fred William 34 yrs a waggoner on a farm, he is living with his wife Ellen Hannah 37 yrs and their sons Thomas 14 yrs a day boy on a farm and William Fred 12 yrs a scholar. Thomas married his wife Phyllis Fanny Gabbitas in Newark in 1917 , they went on to have a daughter Vera, they lived at Charles Street, Newark. His probate was proven on 19th December 1919 at Nottingham, he is shown as being Thomas Beeston of Newark upon Trent, a Private in H.M. Army died on 19th November 1918 in France, his effects of £42, 7 shillings were left to Ellen Hannah Beeston (wife of Fred Beeston)
Private Thomas Beeston served with the 2nd battalion Grenadier Guards and died of pneumonia on 19th November 1918 at 38th casualty clearing station, France, he is buried at Awoingt British Cemetery, France grave reference III.G.29
Article published on 4th December 1918 in the Newark Advertiser :- Eldest son of Frederick & Ellen Beeston, 14 George Street, Newark. Married Phyllis Fanny Gabbitas in July 1917 and resided at 32 Charles Street, Newark. Employed at Messrs. Abbott & Co. before joining Life Guards in June 1915, transferred next day to Grenadier Guards. Owing to illness did not proceed overseas until early 1918 Admitted to hospital on Nov. 10th suffering from influenza. Died of pneumonia at 6:20 am on Nov. 19th. Brother Pte. W.F. Beeston, Sherwood Foresters, was wounded in the thigh, March 1918.
