Military History

Arthur Towle served with 9th Battalion Sherwood Foresters. It is likely he was wounded on 22 July 1917 when patrols were sent out to check the enemy wire and also heavy barrages were laid down by the enemy. The battalion was near La Belle Alliance and also HQ was on the canal bank near Essex Farm. Arthur was probably treated at Essex Farm dressing station before being moved back to Lijssenthoek. He is buried in Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery (Grave Reference: XVI E 14). John Morse
