Frank Hill was born in 1888 at Normanton and was the son of William an farm labourer and Annie Hill nee Wainman of Normanton-on-Trent Newark. His father William was born in 1853 at Knesall and his mother Annie Wainman was born in 1861 at Laxton they were married in 1878 their marriage was recorded in the Southwell Registration district, they went on to have three children, however sadly one died in infancy. Franks brother was George born in 1885 at Normanton. In the 1911 census the family are living at Normanton on Trent and are shown as William 57 yrs a farm labourer, he is living with his wife Annie 50 yrs and their son Frank 23 years of age and a journeyman joiner. He married Nellie Revell (born 10th November 1881) in 1912 their marriage was recorded in the East Retford registration district , they lived at Sibthorpe Hill Tuxford Newark. Following his death his widow Nellie was awarded a pension of 18 shillings and 9 pence a week which commenced on 28th July 1919

Military History

Sapper Frank Hill enlisted at Worksop whilst residing at Tuxford, he served with the 104th Field Company Royal Engineers. He was taken as a prisoner of war and died on 2nd July 1918 at Limbury on on 2nd July 1918. He is buried in Valenciennes (St Roch) Communal Cemetery, Nord, France grave reference V C 11
