Family History

He was the son of Charles and Ida Brodbeck who were Swiss citizens. Charles, listed as 'Teacher of Physical Culture' in 1911, was Nottingham Education Committee's Director of Physical Exercises appointed to supervise the imposition of compulsory military drill in the city's elementary schools following national concerns over the army's poor performance during the Boer War. He was the brother of Arthur E, who also served, Galdys M and Max A Brodbeck.
