Henry Pritchett was born in 1890 the son of John a farm labourer and Mary Pritchett née Carlisle of Granby, Nottingham. His father was born in 1836 and his mother Mary Carlisle was born in 1846 both were born in Sutton in the Vale, Nottinghamshire, they were married in 1874 their marriage was recorded in the Bingham Registration District, they went on to have 8 children, sadly 4 were to die in infancy or early childhood, their surviving children were Ellen b1877 Aslockton, Eliza b1878 Whatton, Arthur b1884 and Harold b1890 at Granby. In the 1911 census his parents are living at Granby and are shown as John Pritchett 75 yrs a farm labourer, he is living with his wife Mary 65 yrs and their son Arthur 27 yrs a quarryman. In the same 1911 census we find then Henry has left the family home, he is living at 3 Leone Terrace John Street, Basford, he is shown as being 21 yrs and a carter and he a boarder living with William Lacey a labourer and his family at this address
Rifleman Henry Pritchett, enlisted at Nottingham whilst residing at Granby he served with the 8th Battalion King's Royal Rifle Corps. He landed in France on 19th May 1915 and was killed in action on 5th August 1915. He is commemorated on the Menin Gate.Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial
In memoriam published 5th August 1916 in the Nottingham Evening Post :- PRITCHETT. – In loving memory of Rifleman H. Pritchett, K.R.R., late of Granby, killed in action August 5th, 1915, aged 26 years. He left his country quite prepared his fair young life to give; he bravely answered duty's call – his life he gave for one and all. – From his sorrowing mother, brother, sisters, niece and nephew Beattie and Bob. “PRITCHETT. – Killed in action, August 5th, 1915, Rifleman H. Pritchett, K.R.R.
