He died of wounds received in action at Messines and is buried in Dranoutre Military Cemetery (grave ref ll.J.2).

Extra Information

The family memorial is on the south wall of the nave (WMA 26884). Inscription: 'In affectionate remembrance of Bombardier Wilfred Gordon Oates, RFA, who died June 17th 1918 in hospital from wounds received at Messines while serving his country, aged 24 years. Greater love hath no man than this.'
