Family History

William Haydn Linwood was born in 1896 he was the son of Arthur a musician and publisher and Mary Linwood née Neville of Derby Road Eastwood Nottinghamshire. Arthur was born in 1870 at Lillington, Cambridgeshire, Mary Ann Neville was born in 1871 at Eastwood, they were married in 1893 at Nottingham In 1911 the family lived at Nottingham Road, Eastwood, Arthur 41 yrs is a musician and publisher he is living with his wife Mary Ann 40 yrs and their two children, William Haydn 15 yrs an assistant musician and publisher and Mabel 13 yrs of age.

Military History

Corporal William Haydn Linwood enlisted or was conscripted in March 1916 arriving in France in July that year. He was promoted Lance Corporal a month later. After recovering from dysentery he was promoted to Corporal on May 29th 1917 and later acting sergeant. He was killed by shrapnel whilst sheltering in a tent on 27th October 1917 and having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial.
