Robert William Slinger was born in 1895 he was the son of William James a farmer and Janet Slinger née Richardson and the brother of John, Edmund, Beatrice, Ruth Amelia, Arthur Augustus and Jessie Adeline Slinger. of Fallows Farm Oxton Nottinghamshire. William James was born in 1857 at Ravenstonedale, Westmoreland Janet Richardson was born in 1857 at Dumfries, they were married in 1882 at Penrith, they went on to have 12 children. In 1911 the family lived at Fallows Farm, Oxton, William James is 54 yrs and a farmer, he is living with his wife Janet 54 yrs and 7 of their children including Robert William 15 yrs a farmers son working on his far.

Military History

Private Robert William Slinger served with the 8th battalion South African Horse (Natal Carbineers), he died on 7th September 1916 and is buried at Morogoro Cemetery, Tanzania.
