Henry Reeve was born in Oxton in 1887 and was the son of Charles an estate carpenter and Sarah Reeve née Eyre of Southwell Road, Oxton His father Charles was born in 1843 in Sculthorpe, Norfolk and his mother Sarah Eyre was born in 1843 in Kirkby in Ashfield, they were married on 9th August 1863 in Alfreton, Derbyshire , they had a total of 12 children, 2 sadly died in infancy, however only the following children have been located on the 1891/1901/1911 census, Samuel Charles b1873 Annesley Woodhouse, William b1876 Annesley Woodhouse, Thomas Horsley b1878 Annesely Woodhouse, Arthur b1883 Oxton, Henry b1887 Oxton and James William b1889 Oxton In the 1911 census his parents are living at Southwell Road, Oxton and are shown as Charles 68 yrs an estate carpenter, he is living with his wife Sarah 68 yrs and their son James William 22 yrs a boot maker.

Military History

Private Henry Reeve, enlisted at Nottingham, he initially served with the service number R/8850 in the 12th battalion King's Royal Rifle Corps and was later posted to the 9th Battalion Royal Fusiliers, he was killed in action on 7th July 1916. His name is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France.
